A QUICK THING ABOUT VOTING

January 31st, 2005 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

This is something I forgot to write about, but then thought that it was worth its own little news post. I’m talking about voting for Theater Hopper at buzzComix.

As you guys probably know, we’ve be showing a strong placement in the number two spot for a couple of weeks now. I couldn’t be more proud. This is the highest ranking we’ve sustained in a quite a while. It’s noteworthy.

Of course, it’s been a little difficult to get around the current number one comic Order of the Stick. They’re about… oh, 40,000 ahead of us at the moment.

But the good news is this: After this month, OotS will be retired and placed in the Hall of Fame over at buzzComix, thus clearing the path for new comics to make it to the top. I figure we’ve been doing so well at number two for the last few weeks, why not make a push for number one?

This isn’t a “have to” situation and I know we were certainly helped by the hits we were getting from PvP earlier in the month, but it’s a nice goal to have. It’s just a bug I want to put in your ear when the buzzComix database resets at the first of the month.

Thanks everyone for your continued support!

THIS POST IS JUST TO TORTURE YOU FOR A MINUTE

I don’t have a lot of commentary right now because it’s late and I’m pretty tired. I want to make sure that when I post something about today’s comic that it makes a little sense because, obviously, this is a pretty big turn of events.

So now that Charlie’s secret is out of the bag, I’m going to let all of you marinate that idea in your head’s for a while. If you want to talk about it in The THorum, you’re more than welcome to.

If you’re looking to kill a little time in the interm, you can always vote for Theater Hopper at buzzComix. Today’s incentive sketch poses the question, “If Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were better known as ‘Bennifer’, what would Ben and Charlie be nicknamed by the tabloiid media?”

Inquiring minds want to know!

NO EXCUSE

I did something pretty stupid today. I forgot to upload the comic. It’s finished. Ready to go, I swear. But it’s at home. And I’m at work. And I can’t fix it from here.

So everyone please be patient while I bang my head on the desk. The comic will be uploaded the minute I get home from work today. I promise.

Thanks for your understanding. It’s been… a stressful few weeks.

Happy Valentine’s Day, all. For those of you who don’t celebrate our little Hallmark tradition… then I guess your Monday will really suck!

I’ll be back with more comments later, but in the meantime, why don’t you vote for Theater Hopper at buzzComix and take a gander at just how flimsy those compressed sawdust doors Cami was talking about…

ART AUCTION

February 15th, 2005 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

I just realized in my previous post that the link that I ∗thought∗ was taking you to the eBay auction for the artwork used in last Friday’s strip actually just took you to… last Friday’s strip.

So here’s a new link!

There are less than 3 days for you to get this ORIGINAL piece of Theater Hopper artwork. I’d really love to see some frenzied bidding on this one because it is my intention to use the profits to help pay my way to the Kansas City Planet Comicon comic book convention this coming April 2-3.

I also have ambitions to film not only my appearance at this convention, but two other Midwest conventions I plan on attending this summer in hopes to assemble the footage and create a NEW documentary to sell by the end of the year. My good friend Jared is the director and we’re hoping to capture the experience of the convention circuit and give everyone a little behind-the-scenes understanding of this facet of Theater Hopper’s grassroots promotion efforts!

So, yeah. Keep bidding so we can get off on the right foot!

CELEBRATE THE ADVERTISERS

February 18th, 2005 | by Tom

Something kind of neat happened recently. For the first time in a long time, Theater Hopper has filled all five advertising spots available on the site!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I thought it would be fun to run down the list of advertisers (with links, of course) and talk about what makes them so great.

You know. Aside from the fact that they were willing to spend money with me.

No blog just yet because I have a lot of ground to cover and I want to make sure I’m thinking straight.

In the meantime, why don’t you big on my original art auction featuring violence against Ben Affleck?! Suitable for framing!

ALPHA AND OMEGA’S KINGDOM COME

February 21st, 2005 | by Jared
Posted In: Blog

Hello! Just wanted to give birthday shout outs to my friends Adam and Mark. Adam’s birthday was Friday and Mark’s is today. Good job guys, you make it look easy.

On a sadder note, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson died Sunday of an apparent suicide. More information can be found here.

I watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with my buddy Steve 63 times during the last two years of college, cementing me as a Thompson fan. If you haven’t read The Rum Diary and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas you are missing out. I also really enjoyed Hell’s Angels. Some of his other, more political work is less favorable to me as it is not as timeless.

I encourage you to check out his work.

WISH HIM A HAPPY BIRTHDAY

February 21st, 2005 | by Tom

No blog just yet because it’s 1:00 in the morning. I really wish I could write these out in advance, but frankly, I’m not that smart.

I had a crazy movie weekend and watched Million Dollar Baby, Sideways and Garden State on DVD in the span of 24 hours. I want to talk to you about it, but I’d like to wait until I don’t have to pause for 30 seconds between each word to make sure the spelling looks right.

In the meantime, why don’t you vote for Theater Hopper at buzzComix. Today’s incentive sketch isn’t comic-related, but instead a portrait of my beagle Truman. He’s made a few appearances in the comic in days of yore. Tuesday is his birthday. He turns 3. I love that little furry freak.

WINNER OF JANUARY’S ART RAFFLE!

February 24th, 2005 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

Something that I meant to do yesterday but didn’t get a chance to do was post the winner of January’s art raffle.

You might have remembered last month that I created a new desktop wallpaper for people who donated to the site. It was an image of Cami dressed up like Elektra. It looked a little something like this:

Well, as part of a promotion to increase donations, advertising and merchandising sales, I decided it would be fun to raffle off the original artwork used in the creation of that desktop.

I am proud to announce that out of a field of 37 participants, Joel Schooling is the winner of January’s art raffle and he will soon be mailed the original 11″ x 17″ piece of artwork, created with loving detail in permanent ink on heavy Bristol board.

Now you’re probably saying to yourself, “Gee, Tom. I wish I could win some original art!” Well, you can! Because I’ve since created A NEW desktop wallpaper (available for donators) featuring Tom as the hero in the recent Keanu Reeves movie Constantine:

…and just as before, the original ink rendition of this artwork is the prize in February’s raffle.

How do you get your name in the running? It’s quite simple. You can either donate to the site, buy something from the store (don’t forget that buttons are still for sale!) or reserve some advertising space and you’ll have your chance to win when I pull a name from a hat.

I know there are only a few days left in the month of February, so that’s why you need to decide now if you want to participate. I will say this, however… February is a short month and things have been a little slow since I’ve suspended t-shirt sales. So your odds of winning this piece are pretty good.

If you need a little extra incentive for turning over your hard-earned cash, remember that donators automatically get their name listed on the Walk of Fame and are also given special access to otherwise hidden areas of the THorum.

If you’re feeling generally altruistic, feel good knowing that any donation you make will be put towards covering expenses for this year’s convention schedule. Our first stop being the Kansas City Planet Comicon convention April 2-3.

Anyway, that about covers it. E-mail me if you have any questions!
