Before I forget, I wanted to let everyone know that fellow Dayfree Press memeber Coffee Brain is back from an extended hiatus.
If you guys haven’t read the comic before, now is an excellent time to jump on. The writing is sharp and I love the site design.
Please visit Coffee Brain and welcome Rob back into the fold!

Quick note: Everyone head over to Taking the Bi-Pass to see a great Theater Hopper cameo!
I wanted to take a time out from all this drama to point you in the direction of a great new comic that I found. It’s called Acid Keg and apparently (as part of some New Year’s Resolution we are not meant to understand) Steve Hogan, the author has pledged to develop his comic with more story-driven plot lines.
I hovered around Acid Keg on and off last year when the comics were more political, social and introspective commentary wrapped up in a luscious illustrative style. I admired the inclusion of obscure pop culture icons of lore, but the updates were inconsistent.
Now with the revitalized version of Acid Keg, the candy-coated visuals are still in place, but I can already detect the strength of the evolving storyline.
I advise you to check it out. It’s good work.
I’ve been informed that there has been some misunderstanding in regard to my earlier blog where I discussed my hosting provider Fuitadnet.com. I don’t want anyone to misinterpret what was said, so I’m taking this opportunity to clarify my comments.
I did not mean to imply that the site was wiped off the server in a bid to boost performance. Rather (or at least to my understanding), Fuitadnet was trying to correct lag issues on the box Theater Hopper was hosted and during that time, the site was ACCIDENTALLY deleted. I never meant to suggest that this was anything Fuitadnet did on purpose.
When confronted with the problem, Fuitadnet did everything in their power to save the sites of their customers. When that could not be done, they were quick to establish new accounts and were gracious enough to give one month of free service. It is because of this excellent customer service that I choose to keep my business with them. Inconvenience aside, they have been the best service provider I have ever done business with. They have been prompt to return any questions and always generous with their time and support. Anyone with a web site would be lucky to work with them.
I can understand how it would be easy to take what I said earlier out of context, but it was not meant to reflect negatively against Fuitadnet.com. It was simply me explaining what had happened and why the site was down. I’ve learned that in matters of business to either be as specific as possible, or say nothing at all. I did neither in this case and want to apologize to Fuitadnet.com for any undue stress this has caused them.
With the knowledge that some of you had contacted Fuitadnet.com over this episode in a confrontational manner, I wish to thank you for supporting Theater Hopper, but request that you please refrain from directing any negative criticism or accusations in my defense. Not to sound ungrateful, but I can speak for myself. If there is a problem, I can deal with it. I guess I’m disappointed that a lack of details on my end resulted in people trying to admonish Fuitadnet.com for something beyond their control.
Regardless, it’s water under the bridge. The site is back up and things are returning to normal. So let’s focus on what we’re here for – having a good time and ignoring drama like this down the road.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and support!
In a thread where we were all talking about Howard Dean and his recent Iowa caucus meltdown, one of the users in the forum posted a link to a political comic called Fillibuster.
I’ve been aware of Filibuster for a while and I admire the artwork. I’m just not a regular reader because if I wanted political cartoons, I could open up any newspaper.
None of this would be important except I stumbled across this comic which casts Iowans in a less than flattering light.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want you guys to flame Filibuster. I’m not trying to start some big inter-drama here. But it seems unfair that some kid from Canada is promoting a stereotype like this to his audience. So my thought it, if he has a forum to place this misconception into the universe, I have an equally valid soapbox to counter it.
I mean, I know it’s supposed to be funny. And, granted, Iowa has a pretty large redneck population. But that image doesn’t represent me and I take issue with the idea that all Iowans are sitting around in straw hats mulling over serious political decisions while taking council from our dear pig Wilbur.
I’m sure if I made a comic that featured a profusely apologetic lumberjack from Ottawa who drinks only maple syrup and rides a moose, most of Canada wouldn’t be too happy with me either.
I should probably just lighten up.

Tom is right, I am going to see The Butterfly Effect tonight. I do have a soft spot for disturbing weirdness. When asked what kind of movies I like, my wife answered for me “He likes movies that include drugs and someone dying.” Is there any other kind?
I do like Ashton, but it is Amy Smart that closed the deal to get me to the theater tonight. I’ve always thought she was cool. Or should I say hot?
Oscar nominations were announced this morning. There were a few surprising picks – especially in the field of Best Actor.
Visit Oscar.com for the full list of nominees. Come back tomorrow for a related comic and reactions from yours truly.
I just about spaced it off, but be sure to stop by our latest advertiser Syntax Error Comics. It’s a really cool and unique web comic done totally in 3-D. What’s better is that it takes that gimmick and amplifies it to great effect with excellent writing!
Check it out and tell ’em Theater Hopper sentcha!

I totally forgot to mention it, but Cami and I ended up going to Miracle on Friday night. It almost didn’t happen. Des Moines saw it’s 3 huge snowstorm in two weeks that day and it dumped another 4 inches on us. I spent an hour and a half shoveling out drifts from my driveway when I got home. By the time I was finished, I didn’t want to go anywhere!
But then movie geekdom got the better of me. I realized that if we didn’t see Miracle Friday night, we probably wouldn’t see it at all that weekend. Saturday night we were having dinner with friends and Sunday night is my all-important Simpsons/Sex and the City/Curb Your Enthusiasm entertainment block. I would go to a matinee… but I’m not 80 years old.
So, we caught the late show on Friday. By the way, did anyone else know that Miracle was over 2 hours long? Who would have guessed.
I really enjoyed the movie and that says a lot because I’m not usually one for sports movies nor do I know anything about hockey. Compound the issue with the fact that I already know how it ends and, well… that’s one sticky wicket.
Still, Miracle hits all the right notes. Inspiring. Emotional. Poignant without being too over the top. You can tell it was made with great care toward the players and their stories.
Kurt Russell knocks it out of the park (to mix metaphors) with his portrayal of Herb Brooks. He spends most of the movie being a hard ass to his players, but there are moments where Russell disarms him so completely with only a few glances… it’s amazing. It really is one of the best performances of his career.
I don’t know if anyone is going to walk out of Miracle thinking it’ll be a big Oscar winner. Most likely, we’ll forget about it by June. But it IS a finely-crafted movie and probably the best one of the year so far. See it now before it drops out of theaters.

Be sure to check out our latest sponsor Destined For Nothing. They’ve advertised with Theater Hopper before and have been nice enough to do so again. The comic is a great piece of social and political satire which is sorely lacking in the web comic scene if you ask me. Check it out and be enlightened!
