JUST FOR THE RECORD

August 3rd, 2005 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

The fourth panel in today’s comic kind of comes out of nowhere. So to make sure everyone is on the same page, that’s Ben Affleck Jared is beating up there.

Y’know. Because it’s supposed to be a dream sequence after all.

Does anyone want to allegorically take a jump with their liberal white guilt in the General Lee? Because now I find myself wishing that was actually possible. We should be friends – me and my guilt.

WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO UPDATE

July 27th, 2005 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

I wanted to let everyone know that I’ve updated my information regarding my appearance at Wizard World Chicago. You can learn everything from what time I’ll arrive, to where you can find my booth, to what we’ll be doing after the shows if you want to hang out all right here. Rather than type it all out a second time, I just wanted to call your attention to it.

Last year I needed a little bit of help getting to Chicago after Truman came down with his mystery intestional ailment and we have to perform emergency exploritory surgery on him.

Luckily, we’ve had no such crisis this year and my money situation is looking pretty good in terms of getting me to Chicago and back. But if you’re unable to make it to Wizard World Chicago and want to show me a little support, feel free to donate a little gas money. I’m looking at a 6 hour drive each way and I’m sure I’ll need it.

Maybe that’s kind of skeevy to ask, but the worst you can say is “No,” right? Besides, it’s not like you won’t be compensated for your generosity. Learn more about that and The Walk of Fame here.

Thanks to everyone for their support! I hope to see as many of you in Chicago as possible!

CONGRATULATIONS, ZACH MILLER

I just wanted to take a moment and send my sincere thoughts out to my good friend Zach Miller in acknowledgement of his first anniversary with Joe and Monkey.

Zach has been kicking ass this year, holding fast and true to his insane schedule of a new comic every day of the week. He’s managed to balance his workload and continue to pump out quality strips. His art has improved and his writing is better than ever.

This is no small task.

I remember when there would sometimes be months between updates back when he was doing No Pants Tuesday and how upset I would get about it. I loved that comic almost as much as I love Joe and Monkey. It angered me that I had to wait so long between comics.

Zach, consider yourself absolved!

Zach has been working on a book that collects the first year of Joe and Monkey and it will get its d…

Okay, so it happened again.

Phillip K. Dick had no hand in Johnny Mnemonic. The original short story was written by William Gibson.

I don’t know how I missed this because I even went to the Johnny Mnemonic page at IMDB to look at the writing credits, but my mind must have clouded over Gibson’s name and replaced it with Dick’s.

The mind does funny things at 1:00 in the morning.

I’m slipping.

PART: TWO

As I said above, I didn’t do any research about The Island. Many of you did. It appears that this movie is based on the film Parts: The Clonus Horror. Hopefully this clone will be higher rated than the http://imdb.com/title/tt0078062/

Thanks to all of you who were willing to go the extra mile and shed some light on this.

LOGAN’S ISLAND

July 22nd, 2005 | by Jared

Speaking of movie clones, every time I see the preview for The Island I can’t help but think it may be a remake of Logan’s Run. I haven’t done any research on this, so I could be way off, but that is the feeling I get.

On a different note, I am in the home stretch of completing my New Year’s resolution. In past years I have made resolutions to work out more or drink less rat poison. This year I chose something obtainable. I decided to complete my viewing of the AFI Top 100 Movies list.

I only have eight movies left, so I should be done soon! Most of these films are truly cinematic gems. I highly recommend viewing as many as you can.

WHEN I SAID “ORIGINAL,” I MEANT THE MOVIE

July 20th, 2005 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

In my previous post, I mentioned that there was no surprise to watching the bratty children of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory being dispatched one by one. Pointing out the only exit that differed was that of Veruca Salt and her coveting of a highly-trained squirrel instead of a gold egg-laying goose.

People have since pointed out to me that the squirrels were in the original Roald Dahl book – of which I was not aware, because I never read the original book.

And before you jump down my throat for not reading the book, remember that I am a ∗movie∗ fan first.

I’m reminded of a quote from comedian Jim Gaffigan. “Whenever someone tells me they liked the book better than the movie, here’s what I always say: ‘What I enjoyed about the movie? No reading.‘”

PARTY WITH A REINDEER

Wanted to clue everyone in to our newest advertiser, O’Deer Comics. I really like this comic and I think the premise is excellent – Santa’s reindeer only work one day out of the year. What do they do with the remaining 364? Give O’Deer a chance. I think you’ll come to love it.

Also worth mentioning, O’Deer has just published it’s first collection of strips in a brand new book. Very reasonably priced! Swing by the site and pick up a copy!

THE PRODUCTS

July 8th, 2005 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

If you’re curious about the costume Tom is wearing in today’s comic, it is the assembled product of Madison Avenue in overdrive and is available in most online and brick and mortar retailers.

Noting the success of the Hulk hands from the Hulk movie a few years ago (which some note that the merchandising made more profit than the film), producers of the new Fantastic Four movie decided to up the ante and said “Comically over-sized electronic hands weren’t enough. This year we’re doing feet, a mask and chest plate!”

Incidentally, I did a comic about the erstwhile Hulk hands on June 20, 2003. So it felt only right to do a comic about its profiteering cousin. Enjoy!
