Hmmm…While I accept and like your assertion that the effects of watching three terrible movies in a row is akin to a night of heavy drinking on the brain cells, I chose to believe this strip is a cautionary tale on the bad decisions made while under the influence of alcohol.
Hey, Tom. Agreed about Times Square. Most New Yorkers (including myself) avoid it like the plague during the entire year, let alone on New Year’s Eve. We’ve gone to friends’ houses the last 5 years in a row and have had a wonderful time every time (this year being no exception). Glad to hear yours was fun. Happy New Year.
I swung by Times Square just to catch a glimpse of what all the hoopla was about a few hours before the clocks changed. It seemed to me if you like being herded into overcrowded steel pens with a bunch of idiots mooing, then yes, Stanley, you are cattle. Seemed silly. We spent our time seeing Black Swan that night and then watching Dick Clark and the concert telecast from LA. See Black Swan. It is best described with the word “Wow.”
Loved today’s comic by the way. Probably one of my favorites. I also like the contrast between Tom and Cami. He looks like crap from that triple feature, she looks like she just came from a spa, alluding that something great happened to Tom the night before, and then bam! Horrible movie triple feature!
Tom, if it makes you feel any better, I fell asleep at 1030 watching ‘Star Trek First Contact’ woke up for 2 mins to do the countdown, then went back to sleep on the couch.
Happy New Year!
We couldn’t have gone to bed at 12:01 if we wanted to. Seems almost half the redneck neighbors bought stuff at one of the half dozen “barely legal” fireworks stands we have within a 5 mile radius. They started lighting up after dark and the last I heard was around 2am. We did try to sleep at 1 but I kept getting interrupted by ‘pow pow pa pa pow.’ Some idiots were shooting over the one retention pond but not straight up over it but horizontally over it. Something landed on a neighbors car and scratched it & boy there was some yelling & other fireworks! hehe
Oh yeah poor Tom. Those 3 films look horrible. Next thing I’m kinda curious about is Green Hornet. Looks like it may be a decent popcorn flick. I’m not expecting something amazing given its release date but I’m hoping for a fun ride.
My girlfriend and I have had this tradition for the last few years of starting the night out watching a classic movie we’ve never seen before (Animal Crackers), then watch our favorite movie released this year (Toy Story 3), and end it by watching the pilot of our favorite show ever (ER) at the stroke of midnight.

Great strip. ๐

We just had a baby, so our usual New Year’s Rock Band party didn’t happen (though I think she probably would have just slept through it, heh).

I completely agree with this comic.

Also of amusement: comic Tom’s night was done by 11 pm, which is what passes for a super late night for real life Tom now. ๐
Well, you know… you have to drive back home ‘n everything… ๐
