Posted In: Blog

I thought you guys might like to know that I posted my experience about The World Series of Pop Culture in the THorum. If you’d like to leave comments, feel free to sign up.

It’s kind of a lengthy post, but I think you’ll find it interesting. I still have more thoughts about the experience, but figured I would let you guys digest what is out there.

I have some photos from this weekend as well. I’ll share those at some point, too. Stay tuned for updates!

NEW SPONSOR

March 15th, 2006 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

Hey, guys. Just poking my head in really quick before I leave. I wanted to draw your attention to our newest sponsor, Dribble For Kids. If you guys like a more serialized take on your web comics, than this one is for you! Check them out!

Also, if you’re considering becoming a sponsor, there are still 4 spots available with a couple of them turning over soon. For ten bucks, you get 30 days of exposure. That’s a really good deal! I know it’s only a 88 x 33 button, but you don’t see Penny Arcade doing this kind of stuff for up-and-coming comics do you?

Think about it!

NOW IN DEPRESO-VISION!

March 27th, 2006 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

So yesterday Cami and I watched March of the Penguins and The Notebook.

I gotta tell ‘ya… Between frozen baby penguin carcasses and old ladies with dimentia, it was a really cheery afternoon around the ol’ Brazelton place!

I don’t know why that was worth mentioning, especially since I should have gotten around to seeing these movies earlier. I was very surprised by The Notebook. It looks like it would be a cloying chick flick, but that’s just well-rounded movie making. No if’s, and’s or but’s.

By the way, I got some new fan art for you. You can say thanks to Will Templeton of Anarchy Soda for being first to the gate with the obvious parody after all the man-lovin’ going on around here lately.

Thanks, WIll!

CONTEST

March 29th, 2006 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

Sorry for the delay getting this posted to the site. I hope I didn’t leave too many of you in breathless anticipation. But at any rate…

Follow this link to learn more about Theater Hopper’s very first contest. A promotional DVD give-away in conjunction with Anchor Bay Entertainment. Five lucky winners will walk away with a copy of 1980’s The Long Good Friday. (available on DVD for the first time Tuesday, April 4) starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren.

This is a bit of a cult film, but it’s really good – I assure you. I watched it over the weekend and it reminds me a lot of other "across the pond" gangland flicks like Snatch. And honestly, when has Bob Hoskins ever been bad in anything? He was even good in The Super Mario Bros. Movie!

Entering the contest couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is send me an e-mail and winners will be chosen at random.

For more details on contest rules and participation, click here.  You can also read a synopsis on the film and forthcoming DVD as well as view the trailer and exclusive video clips!

You can expect me to make a little bit more noise about this in the coming days…

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!

KUDOS TO ZACH

Just wanted to send a shout-out to my good friend, creator of Joe and Monkey and fellow Boxcar Comics brother-in-arms Zach Miller.

His book Totally Boned: A Joe and Monkey Collection recently won the 2006 Lulu.com Blooker Prize – an award the on-demand publisher give to self-published material as a means of drawing attention to quality content found online. A category in which Joe and Monkey firmly resides.

Great job, Zach!

Posted In: Blog

Apologies for the delay posting the names of the winners. I had to make sure a couple of things were organized at home before I could announce them.

Everything is organized!

Congrats to our five winners of The Long Good Friday DVD giveaway! Daniel Pagan, Stuart Baker, Leon Waldman, Chris Brandimore and Will Carpenter. Each of you will be recieving a copy of The Long Good Friday which is now available in store.

If you sent in an application but didn’t win, thanks for your time and support. Generating interest for events like these will increase the likelihood that we’ll get to do them again so be sure to spread the word!

Again, congrats to the winners. You should be seeing your DVDs in the mail within the next week or so!

JEALOUSY!

April 14th, 2006 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

So I went over to PvP today and noticed that my good buddy Wes Molebash – Boxcar associate and creator of  You’ll Have That had a guest strip up and running over at Mr. Kurtz’s site! You can view it here.

I can’t quite describe the level of jealousy coursing through my viens, but it’s borderline toxic. Like Britney Spears-toxic.

But the comic is funny as all get-out and the opportunity couldn’t have been given to a nicer guy. Scott even gave Wes’s new book a plug in the blog! And since Wes once did the same for me, I’d like to return the favor now.

Be sure to check out Wes’ book "You’ll Have That: A Comic Strip by Wes Molebash" is available at Amazon.com right now. Click here to order.

See how it works, kids? You plug my book and I’ll plug your book!

I should also send a shout-out to Clay Yount over at Rob and Elliot for sending over a bunch of traffic and talking up "Theater Hopper: Year One." Thanks, Clay!

If any of you guys have web sites and are feeling generous, please let all of your readers know about the realease of "Theater Hopper: Year One" on Monday, April 17. LiveJournal, MySpace, Facebook – whatever tools you have at your disposal to share information about the book. Any mention you can give, I would appreciate. And who knows? It might put you one step closer to those street team prizes! Just a reminder!

SINCERE THANKS

April 17th, 2006 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

I just wanted to send a shout-out to the people who have been helping me to promote the book today. As you can imagine, it’s been nerve-wracking trying to guess what the resonse will be. These stand up guys have really done a great job helping to spread the word.

First, thanks to Tim from Ctrl+Alt+Del. The number of hits he’s been sending my way are STAGGERING. I think Tim linked to me once a long time ago after I did a guest strip for him. I thought those numbers were impressive. Let’s just say he’s doing pretty well these days. You never really have a concept of how popular your contemporaries are until you’re linked by them.

At any rate, if you’re new to the site, welcome. I think you’ll find a lot of great stuff here if you’re into movies. Be sure to play around with the archive search function. Type in whatever you can think of. You’ll be surprised with some of the results it returns.

Oh, and if you have some extra money to throw around, don’t forget to pre-order a book!

I also want give thanks to Joe Dunn for a very nice write-up over at Joe Loves Crappy Movies. It means a lot.

Also Web Comics in Print gave us a plug as well as the consistently Bigger Than Cheeses – which has been on quite the roll lately, I must say!

Anyway, thanks to you all!

Some other news: I’ve installed a couple of book-related graphics between the comic and the blog. One of them is a reminder for you to take advantage of our street team offer. The other is a gauge that roughly shows you how far we need to go on the pre-order front before we have the funds needed to send the whole thing off to the printer.

Today was a good day. We’re a little less than one-tenth of the way to our goal. That’s very respectable – but I’d like to make sure we keep going strong! So if you’re thinking about pre-ordering, don’t wait! We need your support! Be sure to tell all your friends as well. Spread the news around the internet. Tell people about the book in the forum communities you visit or on your LiveJournal friends pages.

On average, there about 6,000 of you who check the site daily. If every one of you told a friend about Theater Hopper and what we’re doing with the book, that’s excellent word of mouth! You CAN make a difference!

Thanks again to everyone for their support! Launching this initiative has really shown me how tight the community is and how many great friends I’ve made doing this. I consider myself exceptionally lucky.

BUY THE BOOK!

April 17th, 2006 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

Typically this is the time and place where I welcome you back from the weekend and talk about today comic.

Today, that is unnecessary. Today I only want to talk about one thing – THIS!…

That is the full cover to "Theater Hopper: Year One" – my very first book. Either click on the image or click here. In either case, you will be taken to the page where you can place your pre-order!

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re in full swing!

This has been a long time coming for me. I’ve been wanting to do a book since probably 2003, but I didn’t know how to do it. Eventually, I asked around about the process, figured out what vendors to go to, made a schedule for myself and stuck to it. Lo and behold, the book is ready for you to buy.

This last week where I’ve been building it up has been sheer torture for me. I’m really excited for you guys to see what I’ve put together and I just wanted to get it out there! But at the same time, I think it was a good idea to tease it a little bit so you knew what was coming down the line. Hopefully, you’re as excited about it as I am!

Don’t forget about the street team! Be sure to tell as many of your friends as possible about the book and get them to place an order. Keep your eyes on the prize! If you get 5 people to order a book along with you, I’ll send you a $20 gift certificate to Fandango.com! The first 25 readers to complete the task will also win a Theater Hopper t-shirt.

As always, be sure to check out the street team page for talking points and the four-page preview. I’m going to start tossing in banner ads this week for you guys to help spread around for me.

I think there would be nothing greater than if we could really get this pre-order period off on the right foot. And if we could gather all of the orders we need and raise the nessecary funds for the printer by this week, I would be thrilled!

So if you’re thinking at all about buying this book – this wonderful, 200 page, full-color book with exclusive commentary from yours truly… commentary you won’t find anywhere else! – do the right thing and place your order this week. Don’t wait. Do it now. The faster you order, the faster we can get your book to you!

As always, if you have any questions, please contact me at theaterhopper@hotmail.com.

I appreciate everyone’s support. This is a very exciting day! Thank you for helping to make it happen!

WALLPAPER

April 19th, 2006 | by Tom
Posted In: Blog

I got some feedback from you guys that today’s comic would look really sharp as a desktop wallpaper and they were right!

Click on the thumbnail to grab a version for yourself. This version is saved at 1280 x 1024. I figured you could probably resize it for your purposes after that.

Dig in and thanks for the kind words on today’s comic. People really seemed to like it!
