Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Think Tank and Aikida. Both of their comics were named-checked in the letters section of the most recent Wizard Magazine.
It’s always a welcome change of pace to see web comics mentioned in traditional paper mediums. It brings more attention to the art form and we all benefit as a result.
Frankly, these are the kind of letters I think MORE fans of web comics should be sending to magazines!
Of course, I’m a little biased…

I just wanted to send a quick shout out to my friend (and fellow Dayfree Press cohort) Jeph Jacques of Questionable Content for making it into The Hall of Fame over at buzzComix. It’s quite an achievement considering the short amount of time he’s been on the scene. I believe in some circles, that kind of meteoric rise is also known as “kicking ass and taking names.” Congrats, Jeph! (now if I can only figure out a way to get his readers to vote for me!)
Theater Hopper is currently in third over at buzzComix. If you’d like to vote to show your support, I’d appreciate it.
Remember a couple of weeks ago when Scary Go Round and WIGU joined buzzComix and everyone was all a-titter? Let’s just say that the irony does not escape me that they currently hold the number one and number two spot respectively. Oh, well. Such is life! I’m sure I’ll find a comfortable spot somewhere in the middle of the Top 10. RStevens just threw his hat into the ring with Diesel Sweeties. So I have that going for me… which is nice.
Actually, it’s really hard to pretend to be upset about this sort of thing. Simple science tells you that whenever any well-known creator joins a group you belong to, it raises the profile of everyone previously affiliated. Being so close to the top spot, I’m basking in some pretty sweet indirect attention! Why bother going to the trouble of making yourself distinctive when you can just quietly leech off the success of others!
Speaking of which, my good buddy Zach over at Joe and Monkey told his readers to vote for Theater Hopper this week. I’m inclined to return the favor. If you’re not reading Zach’s comic (and voting for it), then you’re really missing out!
Give a brother a hand!

I think a cast page would be supercool!
I’m really just posting to see if I have a new Avatar, but while I’m at it I’ll give you a quick movie update.
My Boss’s Daughter “2” Avoid Avoid Avoid!
City of God (Cidade de Deus) “4” Excellent! Like Goodfellas without any R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music “4” Important time capsule.
Matchstick Men “3” Good film, the first time at least.
Open Water “3” The trailer is better.
Powaqqasti “3” Movies without dialogue? Cool. I like the first one better though.
Les Vampires “3” 399 minute silent French film = summer project.
Highlander 3: The Final Dimension “3” Gains points for ignoring Highlander 2, loses points for not being Highlander 1. Mario Van Stupid Voice sucked.
Tierra (Earth) “3” Arty. Spanish. Too long.
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry met Lloyd “3” I expected this to be a “1.” Eric Christian Olsen played Lloyd well.
Empire “3” Normal drug dealer/con movie. Enjoyable but predictable.
Sniper 2 “3” Don’t go out of your way.
Out of Time “3” Should this be a “2”? A few good moments saved (almost) this predictable piece of Hollywood fluff.
Runaway Jury “4” See this.
All the President’s Men “4” 70’s movies rule.
Starsky & Hutch “3” Modern versions of 70’s TV shows rule not so much. See it for the Dragon bit.
That’s all for now. Happy Thursday.

I disagree with you Tom. I think zombie movies rule. Though I wasn’t too impressed with Milla’s latest photo spread in Maxim (eat a cookie already,) I think she rules too.
RE was a bit dumb, but if you view it with your B movie goggles on, it fairs better than most thriller/horror movies. It’s campy, but it’s fun and I enjoyed it.
I used to hate horror movies, but I think that changed somewhere over the span of six summers when I worked at Wal-Mart. I guess fantasizing that something like Dawn of the Dead or even Red Dawn would happen, sending me to sporting goods to tear things up made the time pass by more quickly. For that I have movies like this to thank.
I will be seeing Resident Evil: Apocalypse this weekend if I can.

Well, I didn’y make it to the theater this weekend to see Resident Evil: Apocalypse, but I guess it will wait for me. I did see a few others at home though. Here is a quick recap:
Intolerable Cruelty – I enjoyed this Coen Brothers movie, though I don’t see it having the replay value of some of their previous films.
Naqoyqatsi – I rounded off Godfrey Reggio and Phillip Glass’s trilogy by watching this third installment of music and images. This is the second best in the trilogy, with Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance being the most innovative.
Blow Up – “This is a bad movie, you know that, right?” Patti said before bailing out on this one. I agreed, until I completed watching this and thought about it for a few minutes. I watched the trailer after I finished viewing this film which confirmed that I did understand the point they were trying to make. A little long, with spans that include little dialogue or even conceivable plot, this film is stylized enough to grow on you. You spend the first twenty minutes thinking “Why am I watching this?” but stick with it. Think art film rather than Hollywood Blockbuster. I guarantee Mike Myers has seen this film, as a few of the scenes reflect Austin Powers.

Let me explain the way I rate movies. I usually find some value in most movies, so I struggle with giving movies very low ratings, even if they are bad. I am adopting the five star rating system since it is the same that I use on Netflix. Since I “enjoy” most movies, I tend to rate almost everything a “3.” I guess that is just the way it is.
“5” Movies that totally rule. I probably own it or should own it. Good acting, good plot, good direction and cinematography, a great movie, one of my favorites. Must be rewatchable. May lack in any of these categories if it is one of my favorites.
“4” Great Movie. Has qualities similar to a “5,” but lacks in some way. Usually it just doesn’t make my favorites list for some reason, probably because it lacks replay value.
“3” Most Movies. Sorry.
“2” This movie was lame in a way that made it flunk out of the Majority “3” group.
“1” I hated this movie or this movie sucked. Probably both.
Does that clear anything up. No? Oh well. Here are the movies I’ve watched this week.
Tremors 1990 “3” After watching parts of this movie a million times, I thought I would finally sit down and watch it. Yup, I don’t think I had really missed too much, but everyone should see this once.
They Live 1988 “3” John Carpenter rules. Though the acting is pretty bad and the thrid act wraps things up in a fairly sloppy way, this was a cool movie. The subliminal message shots were especially nice.
Duplex 2003 “3” I have learned to avoid anything that says Danny DeVito and Director, but I ignored that and actually liked this film. The lead actors ( Ben Stiller, Drew Barrymore ) have both been better, but their chemistry was good and they carried the film.
If you look at the top of the page and the navigation under the logo, you’ll notice I added a new Cast page to the site. I figured Theater Hopper had been around long enough that newcomers might appreciate a small introduction to the characters instead of having to troll through 325 plus comics in the archive!
Hopefully you guys are digging the changes. Expect more changes in the coming weeks as I drag the remaining pages in the site, kicking and screaming, into the wonderful world of CSS…

Wow, I tell you guys that I have some advertising space open and you come a’running! Please, please, please check out our latest sponsor. I promise they won’t disapoint.
Wacky Movies is pretty much that. An interesting collection of short films, writing and an internet chat show. Lots of interesting stuff to see here. I got a kick out of The Playground Patrol.
Our next sponsor should need no introduction, but I’m breakin’ all the rules, baby! Joe and Monkey! Zach Miller (formerly of No Pants Tuesday) has been kicking ass and taking names with his new comic. He updates seven days a week, people! And he hasn’t missed a day yet! If that doesn’t earn your faith and devotion, I don’t know what will.
Lastly, don’t forget to check out O’Deer Comics. These guys are frequent advertisers on the site and we love their business. Show them how much we appreciate their support by visiting their web comic often. They update five times a week and have a really good storyline going on right now.
That’s about everything I can think of for the moment. Please visit our sponsors!

I don’t know if you guys are aware of the minor controversy that sprang up between Penny Arcade and buzzComix regarding PA’s charity effort Child’s Play, but basically Gabe took some members of the community to task for some rather disparaging remarks they made. Some had the audacity to suggest that Gabe and Tycho developed Child’s Play as a way of raising their own profile and that their motives weren’t completely altruistic.
What’s important about this story is that Gabe actually linked to the thread in the buzzComix forum where these comments were being made. (the link has since been taken down from the PA main page)
Kind of as a half goof/half publicity stunt, I decided to hop into the middle of the fray to promote Theater Hopper and placed a link for people to click. PA’s fan base is legendary. I knew they would swoop into action immediately after Gabe pointed out people bad mouthing them. So, I decided to capitalize on it a little. If nothing else, I thought I could insert a little ironic levity into what would assuredly become a lot of self-important bickering.
I’m mentioning this because astonishing, my plan seems to have worked! I’ve gotten a few e-mails from people saying they read my post and decided to give Theater Hopper a try.
I just want to say to those of you who came from Penny Arcade by-proxy and found yourself here, WELCOME! I hope you enjoy the comic. We have over 325 comics in our archive, so I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like. If you’re looking for an introduction to the cast, you can find it here. And if you like online communities give our THorum a try! We have lots of really cool people in there and we’ve managed to stay relatively drama-free for the last year or so.
Y’know, the Internet is a pretty crazy place to live and do business, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
