This weekend is shaping up to be mighty fine in the movie department, and I’m chomping at the bit to see Kill Bill.
I came from the era when Pulp Fiction was a revelation and was part of the generation to whom the movie was marketed specifically for. There wasn’t a dorm room in sight that didn’t have a Jules Winnfield poster hanging in it when I went to college. Trust me.
There are rumblings that the first volume of Kill Bill is light on Quentin Tarantino’s trademark dialogue, but that volume two makes up for it in spades.
There’s also talk that the finale of the first installment is outrageously violent. Over the TOP violent. Wile E. Coyote violent. Blood doesn’t seep from wounds, it gushes. And Uma Thurman is finding a hundred and one ways to slice a man to ribbons – probably even inventing some techniques along the way – as Quentin pays homage to all the grind house kung-fu flicks of the 70’s.
I think Kill Bill will prove to be an interesting experience. I mean, when you think of all the watered down copycats that flooded theaters in the wake of Pulp Fiction, what direction can an auteur go when his voice has been co-opted by the masses?
Kill Bill looks like a full-frontal assault on our expectations. A jarring stab to the kidneys to wake us from our slumber and erase and shades of doubt in a sea of red.
By the way, everyone. I’m toying with some new site designs. But before I can implement them, I need to get a couple of other things up and running again. The server movie last week kind of laid me up and I’m still recovering.
At the top of my list is bringing the forum back online. I created a backup right before the switch, but am kind of lost in terms of reinstalling everything. If anyone has experience with this, contact me the usual way.
S’more Kill Bill action for ‘ya. Man, I can’t wait to see this movie!
I spent most of yesterday afternoon wracking my brain trying to come up with an idea for today’s strip. I thought I was stuck with writer’s block before this idea hit me. I think it turned out really well. Who says girls don’t fantasize?
I really like the poses I was able to draw Cami in, but when I showed it to her, she could only comment on her hair. “My hair doesn’t look like that!” she said. “Let ME draw my hair.”
Women… 😉
Much like I was out of the house all last weekend, this weekend is Cami’s turn. She’s visiting her sister at our alma mater to partake in Homecoming festivities. I’m happy for her. I think she’ll have a good time. I guess all I have left are these sexy poses to keep me company. *Rrrrowr!*
I kid.
I would like to call everyone’s attention to a new advertiser. Please visit Quadboy Presents: Rants of a Madman.
Those of you who visit Movie Comics might be familiar with Quad’s work. He mainly writes movie reviews, but he’s just recently gotten into music reviews. All I can say is that the little bugger is PROFICIENT. He updates often and always has something unique to say, so check his site often. Tell ’em Theater Hopper sentcha!
Last weekend was nothing short of a movie-watching frenzy for my wife and me. On Friday, we saw School of Rock which she kept calling School House Rock. However you’d like to refer to it, it was good. It’s refreshing to know that Richard Linklater can make another fun movie after such heady fare as Waking Life. Not that I didn’t like that movie, it’s just that I get migraines whenever I think about it.
On Saturday, we saw Intolerable Cruelty. Although I liked it, I stopped thinking about it by the time I got home. The movie was full of close-ups of George Clooney and Catherine Zeta Jones. Their beauty only reminded us in the audience how unattractive we really are, except my wife; she’s hot.
Saturday nights are meant for parties, bar mitzvahs, and discos. So of course it would make sense that we watched Philadelphia. The movie was an early birthday gift from my mother-in-law. I’m not exactly sure what it is about me that made her think of Philadelphia, but it was a very sweet gesture and she’s one of the sweetest people I know. The movie made me want to buy those action figures that they advertised on SNL. Where can I get those?
And yesterday we saw Kill Bill. Tom’s description did it justice so I won’t go into it. I just want to say that I’m glad Erin, the love of my life, is cool enough to see that movie with me. Not only that, she didn’t want to leave in the middle, when the going got bloody, like the female half of the couple next to us did. Yes, I picked a good one.
