Things might look a little odd around here for a week or two. I just recently converted the site from .shtml to .php using a handy script I picked up from Comrade F over at The Misc.
The changes shouldn’t affect how you, the reader encounter the site as a whole. But it does WONDERS in terms of organizing things for me on the back end.
With this script in place, there will be less likelihood of broken links and MORE blog updates since now I can input commentary into the site from any terminal with internet access. This goes the same for my friends Jared and Nick as well as my wife Cami – who should have more ease uploading content versus the old “send me a Word document” system we had going before. So in that respect, it’s good for you because you’ll be getting more diversified content.
The bad news is that all of the old blogs have been erased and need to be replaced through the .php script. That’s going to take some time, but I plan on starting at the beginning and steadily working my way toward the present.
Also on the fritz is the archive section. but it’s not a big loss because if you want to skip around to a specific strip, there is now a little menu bar underneath the blog. Actually, it’s more efficient than what we had before.
The last down side is for anyone who may have linked directly to a strip. Those links are gone now, but this doesn’t screw up those of you don’t have web sites.
Regardless, this is the new system and it’ll be a little bumpy putting it into place. If you see an errors or broken links, please contact me so I can fix them and thank you for your patience.

Calling all PHP wizard! Theater Hopper needs your help.
I’m try to implement a script called AdMentor. It’s a handy-dandy administrative panel that will allow me to sell advertisements through the site. The people I sell ads to can then look at their ad statistics – how many impressions the ad has made, click throughs, how long the ad has been running and what not. If you’d like to download the script to view for yourself, it can be found here.
Anyway, I’ve set up a database through my server and I think I have everything hooked up correctly, but I’m still having problems.
View this page and try logging on with Username: administrator, Password: test. I get a funny error message am totally at a stand-still.
If anyone can help me, please contact me directly. If anyone has suggestions for replacement scripts, I’m interested in learning about those, too.
Thanks!

It just dawned on me that when I asked for some help with PHP a few days ago on the site, that I didn’t give credit to those of you who stepped forward to lend a hand.
There were several of you – More than I expected. And as such, I didn’t get an opportunity to respond to everyone who wrote it. If you sent a letter my way, thank you for your time and support.
Many thanks to Comrade F who figured out that the script in question was poorly written and not worth my time. Thanks also Jason Reid who turned me on to an even better script that I already have up and running and plan on implementing with a redesign of the site.
If I could only be as smart as the rest of you…

You may not have noticed, but I’ve been quietly going back through the archives and updating all the old comics with their corresponding blogs.
Readers that have been with us longer might remember that I used to have a separate HTML page for each comic. When we switched over to archiving the comics and blogs with PHP, a lot of the blogs were dropped from the site. I had to re-enter them to get them back on the site. Over 100 comics were missing blogs.
Well, I’ve finally finished this task and it’s like a HUGE weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
I’m almost positive no one cares what I thought about Al Pacino’s performance in Simone from over a year ago. Frankly, I re-read a lot of the stuff I said when I was first starting out and laugh.
But for me, it was important to get these blogs back in action because otherwise, things just felt half-assed. I hate that feeling.
Of course, the true irony of this is after I’ve completed all this hard work, I will likely have to reformat several aspects of the blogs when I eventually switch the site design to a structure utilizing more CSS and XHTML. The PHP archives will stay in place, but XHTML gets picky when it comes to some of the tags that can be found in the behind-the-scenes scripting.
:: SWITCHING GEARS ::
Time for a little “Toot My Own Horn” moment. I learned this week that Theater Hopper was the proud winner of the “Best Environment” award as handed out by the good folks over the buzzAwards.
Basically it means that of the nominated comics, they felt Theater Hopper was the best at promoting a community atmosphere, had an easy to navigate structure and that I as the creator was accessible and accommodating.
That’s a pretty big validation. My thanks to the judges.
I think that’s about it for now. You’re probably wondering why I’ve made no mention of Catwoman yet.
Honestly, people. Why kick an Oscar winner when she’s down? That move had wavy stink lines emanating from it way back when it was still in production.
