And your thoughts on what I’m assuming is the Mark-IV armor? I don’t really like the design. Triangle chest plate? For whatever reason, it doesn’t look like what I picture Iron Man to look like. The suitcase armor looks pretty darn kool, even though it’ll probably get smashed by the guy wielding lightning whips powered by the miniArc.
The Mark IV is actually a rebuilt of the Mark III that was destroyed in the fight from the Iron Monger from the first movie. The Mark IV has the circular chest plate. The Mark V is the suitcase armor and the Mark VI has the triangle chest plate.
I’m warming up to the Mark VI. It’s got a little more bulk to it. Looks like a powerhouse. I also like that they bumped up the yellow in the armor and stepped away from the gold a little bit.
I’m not concerned about the triangle in the chest plate. Several Iron Man armors have had that design feature. I figured it was just another subtle shout-out to fans.
I’m with you on the Mark V, though. Since it’s so lightweight, I don’t doubt it’ll be destroyed in the fight with Whiplash.
@David
I don’t know the song being used in the trailer, but I like it! Do you know what it’s called?
best trailer yet. took some cheesyness that was in previous trailers out, by identifying where Whiplash’s lines were being said. also, freaking awesome suitcase suit that is silver and red! woo! ๐
also, are you familiar with the song that goes “and i threw it out the window, the window, the 2nd story window, a heave and a ho and away we go and i threw it out the window”
The song at the end of the trailer was, appropriately enough, “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath (though I’m not sure if you were talking about something else – it sounds like David was, since the song he mentioned was in relation to the comic, not the trailer)!
Anyway, I’m one of the few who hadn’t seen the trailer yet, and now I have, I’m jazzed! I love Robert Downey Jr. anyway – such personality, such a good actor – and the movie itself looks awesome, can’t wait. :)))
By the way, my hubby let out a chortle of glee at that suitcase armour as well… regardless of how familiar you are with the comics, it’s pretty damn cool! :)`
You know what. I think I was confused about that song question. ‘Cause, yeah, I recognize Black Sabbath! Of course!
Jeremy is right on the money about using Kiss’s “War Machine.” That would be perfect! Although, maybe they’re trying to keep a lid on exactly how much of War Machine we see in action. The character is a fan favorite. It’s this movie’s Ace In The Hole.
I like Iron Man getting “Iron Man” but can we get some “War Machine” by kiss for War Machine? I mean Gene Simmons is a massive whore so i’m sure he’ll sell the rights.
I don’t know much about Iron Man, but I loved the first movie and this one looks just as good. Question though, Tom: Who’s the character dressed like Paul Lynde eating a meal in an airplane hanger?
That’s Justin Hammer – a weapons manufacturer and business rival of Tony Stark.
In the comics, he was a MUCH older man who became a criminal financier. He would equip and bail out criminals for 50% of their profit. At one point, he stole some of Stark’s armor designs and resold them to criminals like Stilt Man, The Beetle, and The Raiders. This kicked off one of Iron Man’s most famous story lines – “The Armor Wars” – where, basically, Tony attempts to eliminate every iteration of his designs to prevent them from being used for evil.
From the trailers, it looks like Hammer is doing something comparable in the movies – using Stark technology and using it to build the Mandroids (the armored robots you see Iron Man and War Machine dismantling near the end of the second trailer.)
Believe it or not, I never really watched the Iron Man cartoon growing up. I think the CBS affiliate that carried it here in Iowa aired it at a weird time. Like 11:30 on Saturdays, or something.
I would pick it up on DVD, but I’ve seen a few episodes on Disney XD and they’re… not great. Tony Stark should NOT have a mullet! ;D
O.K I’ve never read an Ironman comic nor have I seen the annimated series so I’m only able to geek out about this in two ways; as a genre film and as a platform to launch the Black Widow. As far as genre films go I think Ironman was one of (if not THE) best ones to ever come to the silver screen. Though I’m a tad dissapointed with the Black Widow appearing in the sequel simply because I was hoping she’d get her own movie in the Marvel Knights lineup that the new Punisher movie started. Though I’m guessing she has just as much importance to the Ironman mythos as she does to that of the Marvel Knights……..If I’m wrong about that and they put her in this movie just so they could have some cat fights I will be severely pissed.
My only comment on “IRON MAN II” is, what the FRELL is going on with the Black Widows hair? Seriously? Could her hair be more of a tangled mess than when she is seen in the hallway fight scene!? There is so much chemical product in her hair it looks totaly un-natural and un-sexy. I also don’t like the choice of Scarlett Johansson for that role. She just can’t pull off the vibe that character eminates. However, I Love, love, love Gwyneth Paltrow in her role!
have to agree /wthe maorjity of other posters… I can’t wait for Iron man 2!. While I was never a big rweader of comic books growing up, I’ve been a fan of most of the comic book movies(xmen/spider man/hulk/etc) My fie has gone to most of them, but has typically been a less than willing participant. She LOVED iron man however, and may be more excited than I am for this new one. Love the new suit BTW
This trailer really got me psyched for the movie which is good because trailers are supposed to do that. However, Black Widow doesn’t talk which makes me a bit worried about her either not having a russian accent or it being done very badly.
Sweet googly moogly! I want this movie so badly! I’m with Tom re: the suitcase armour. There is so much win there that my head almost exploded. I’m interested to see how the Black Widow actually plays out in this film, there isn’t enough in the trailers to get a clear picture of her involvement, though, perhaps she steals the technology from Stark for Hammer?
Love the comic. ๐ Also, I plan on wearing the arc-reactor all over the place when I buy it. Actually, you should have comic Tom wear it all the time, just as a nod to the film on a regular basis. OH! Um, the 90’s cartoon almost did the same thing with the briefcase armor. It wasn’t the armor, but it unfolded and he stepped into it.
I nearly cried when I saw the briefcase/suitcase armor because I remembered that from the cartoon that I so lovingly watched. It was amazing, though Mickey Rourke’s Russian accent is terrible (knowing an actual Russian person gives me a tiny bit of authority on that).
Then I watched the Tron Legacy trailer and nearly had a heart attack from the awesome overload.
I went on lockdown after the first trailer, lol. That was enough for me.
My opinion? Can’t freakin’ wait! I agree that the trailer seemed to give away too much flow, it’s almost like I shouldn’t have watched it.

In the animated show, he actually had a suitcase that changed into the armor. I recognized it immediately when I saw the trailer, and I went crazy!
Here’s a video comparing the two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP1blK8DiEo

I can SO not believe I missed the first movie. ๐ I should see that before I see Iron Man 2.
Is it just me, or do I find Tom lifting Jared clear over his head to be hilarious as heck? XD

Haha Tom’s eyes in panel 3 are hilarious
You do get “War Machine.” It’s AC/DC’s version from latest Album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwaD-M7B0hU

I’m with Hotaru on the Tron Legacy trailers; I’m glad Iron Man is out in May- it’ll make the wait till December that much shorter
I don’t know about the trailer just yet, but the comic is great. Seems this joke gets funnier the second time around.
Interesting to read this AFTER the movie has been out and seems to be widely accepted as a failure… :/
Too bad too. The first one was awesome.
