“As parents, I think we (collectively) put a lot of pressure on ourselves to provide a “perfect” experience for our children. Sometimes we lose sight of the experience they’re having versus the experience we WANT them to have. It’s a definite tight rope walk between living vicariously through your children and (if you’ll pardon the pun) railroading their own experience with your own expectations”
I think that pretty much sums it up nicely. Glad that he was able to enjoy the experience as much as possible and made it a pleasurable experience for Cami and yourself.
Fantastic! Glad Henry had a fun time, and what a great selection for his first flick. Pretty soon you’ll have another movie critic in your house, and you two will be able to collaborate on fun film adventures together.
hurray! make sure to show him plenty of classics as he grows up too! thats how you really breed a movie lover (I should know, thats what my parents did to me!).
My first movie was Beauty and the Beast. I couldn’t stop talking about it on the ride home! 🙂
One day, when I’m a parent, the first film my kid is going to see is definitely Synecdoche, New York. I will be so proud of my little elitist. No, just kidding – I also think The Polar Express was an exellent choise. Up would also have been great, but maybe it is too gloomy for a two year-old.
PS. Now I got it! I’ll buy Schindler’s List DVD (or Blu-ray, or whatever future format) for my first child when he/she turns two. Great vision.
Aww, that story made my heart feel all warm inside and I don’t even have kids yet. I hope that my kids will be avid movie lovers like myself…and won’t cry in the theaters when I take them.
