Hey, gang. I just wanted to send a quick reminder to everyone to listen to tonight’s broadcast of The Triple Theater at 9:00 PM CST over at Talkshoe. And to help keep your memory fresh, I wanted to take a moment to outline the two new DVDs we’ll be giving away to people who either listen in live or download the show before Wednesday.
First up is Wild Hogs. The star-studded cast of this hit comedy includes Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macyas four suburban couch jockeys who suffer from mid-life crises and take motorcycles to the American asphalt expecting nothing but fun and adventure. But being an easy rider isn’t so easy, especially after a chance encounter with the real-life Del Fuegos biker gang proves just how lame and tame the Hogs really are.
From what I’ve heard, Ray Liotta steals the show as the leader of the rival biker gang. If for nothing else, he’s the reason to check out this film.
If your curious about the movie, here are a few clips you can watch:
- Break his Legs
William H. Macy confronts the age old question – what do you need more – hands or legs? - Slap the Bull
To know you’re alive, sometimes you gotta slap the bull. - Bonus Clip
How to Get Your Wife To Let You Buy a Motorcycle. - Bonus Clip
Bloopers
The other DVD we have for you tonight is The Ex. Tom Reilly (Zach Braff) and his wife Sofia (Amanda Peet) are in for some major changes now that they have a newborn. As a lawyer, Sofia has always provided a comfortable living while Tom has contributed love, support and the occasional paycheck. When Sofia decides to be a stay-at-home mom all that changes. Tom moves the family to Ohio to work for his father-in-law (Charles Grodin). His boss, Chip (Jason Bateman), happens to still carry a torch for Sofia from their high school days. Chip will stop at nothing to see Tom defeated while no one but Tom can see Chip for the evil genius he is. Through it all Tom’s esteem is depleted, his manhood challenged (by a surprisingly large adversary) and he’s watching his family slip away.
Ever since Arrested Development, Jason Bateman has been a favorite of mine. Hey, I’m just as surprised as you thank I’m enamored with the guy from The Hogan Family and Teen Wolf, Too. But guess what? The guy is hilarious in damn near everything he’s in.
So there you have it. Those are the DVDs I have available for giveaway.
Be sure to listen to The Triple Feature over at TalkShoe tonight at 9:00 PM CST for the first half of a clue that will put you in the running. Then come back here on Wednesday for the second half of the clue. Put both clues together and send them to me at theaterhopper@hotmail.com along with your name, age and mailing address. And please keep your contest entries seperate – one for Wild Hogs and one for The Ex. It will help me keep things organized.
Thanks again and we’ll see you at The Triple Feature tonight!

Apologies to anyone who tried to participate in or download last night’s Triple Feature talkcast. Gordon and I ran into some technical difficulties around the 15 minute mark and decided to scrap the show after neither of us could log back in. You wouldn’t have missed much. Joe was M.I.A. because he got to attend an early screening of American Gangster and neither Gordon or I had much to talk about. We were pretty much going to wing it. There weren’t that many people in the chat field, either. I think everyone was off watching the premiere of Heroes, or something.
We might try and do another show later in the week to make up for it. Possibly Thursday. Joe is game. We’re still waiting for confirmation from Gordon. So stay tuned for that one. Either way you slice it, don’t worry about getting the first half of The Kingdom prize package giveaway code. I’m going to give you the whole thing on Wednesday and you can enter the contest then.
Speaking of contests, I’ve got another one for you!
I have two copies of Stargate Atlantis: Season Three to give away and I’m going to make you work a little bit to be eligible to win.
All I need you to do is pick your favorite three Theater Hopper strips and submit them to your favorite social bookmarking site. It could be StumbleUpon, it could be Reddit, it could be Digg. Whatever works best for you.
If you’re new to social bookmarking, you can use the handy little drop down at the bottom of this post. Be sure you’re on the individual page you want to bookmark before tagging it.
Once you’ve bookmarked your three favorite strips to the social bookmarking site of your choice, send a screen shot or a link to your profile page so I can see your entries to me at theaterhopper@hotmail.com along with your name and mailing address. You have until this Friday to enter. From the entries, two winners will be chosen at random.
Hopefully you guys appreciate that I’m just trying to drum up some interest in the site and it’s really not that much effort for a chance to win something cool. Your efforts help promote the site and ,when that happens, everyone wins!
Get bookmarking and good luck!

So you guys remember that contest I was running last week for The Kingdom, right? On Friday I received the prize pack in the mail and I wanted to share this picture with you:
First of all, let me say that it is KILLING me to give this stuff away. I would happily keep all of it. But that’s not the agreement I made with you. One of the lucky folks who submitted their entry has been randomly chosen to receive these goodies and they are on their way this week!
Secondly, I wanted to post this to demonstrate that I am NOT FOOLING AROUND when it comes to these contests. I am giving away cool stuff here, people! In fact, I’m kicking myself that I didn’t make you guys jump through more hoops to be eligible for this contest. Since The Triple Feature talkcast was down last week, you didn’t have to listen to the broadcast for a clue or anything. Crazy!
And, by the way, another Triple Feature talkcast is on for tonight at 9:00 PM CST so you need to listen in to see what kind of crazy stuff we have cooked up.
At any rate, if you want to stay on top of these contests, I strongly suggest that you sign up for the mailing list. I’ll give you guys the advance notice on the upcoming contests I’ll be running along with weekly recaps of Theater Hopper news. Who knows – I might just offer my next DVD giveaway to my mailing list subscribers EXCLUSIVELY! But you’ll never know unless you sign up!
Talk to you all tonight during The Triple Feature talkcast. Take care!

I hope everyone had a chance to listen to The Triple Feature talkcast last night. If not, it was a good show. We covered a lot ground talking about American Gangster, Bee Movie and Shia LaBeouf being arrested in Chicago. Good times.
Something else I touched on quickly was the release of Michael Moore’s Sicko out on DVD today. In addendum to the review posted above, I have one copy to give away, so I’m running a little contest.
Download last night’s episode of The Triple Feature from our profile page and listen for the first half of a clue. Combine it with the second half of the clue (that I’m going to give to you in a second) and e-mail the compelted clue to theaterhopper@hotmail.com with your name and address. Make sure the subject line of your e-mail is “SICKO” so I’ll know you’re entering the drawing. One winner will be chosen at random. If you don’t want to download the show from TalkShoe, we’re also available on iTunes. Sign up for our podcast and have the latest epsiode sent to your computer every week!
Anyway, without further delay, the second half of the code is “YOU.”
Send in the complete phrase for your chance to win!
GOOD LUCK!

Hey, gang.
I know I promised that I would type up my list of the Top 10 Movies of 2007 and I kind of flaked. So I started working on it tonight to have something to reference back to instead of breaking another promise.
One problem – my write-up wasn’t very good.
I thought that I could add some value to my picks by punching it up a little copy. I started writing and found myself just kind of regurgitating what I said in last weeks Triple Feature broadcast, so I scrapped it.
My advice? Download last week’s show. You won’t regret it. Gordon, Joe and I put together a great show with a lot of back and forth and a few surprises. It’s probably one of my favorite shows we’ve done over the last year. I was really proud of it.
Don’t forget to check out this week’s show, while you’re at it. We’re broadcasting live at 9:00 PM CST. We’ll be discussing In The Name of the King, The Orphanage, 27 Dresses as well as The Bucket List and First Sunday.
Sorry again for flaking out on the Top 10 list. But come back to the site for a DVD review of Paul Rudd in The Ten tomorrow.
I swear!

Turns out we’re going to be one man down fo The Triple Feature this evening. Gordon has to bow out for tonight. So, since I wasn’t able to get out of the house this weekend to see Run Fatboy Run like I had hoped (I blame a mutant head cold), I think we’re going to steer the topic of conversation down a different path than usual with this week’s show.
Joe and I would like to take this opportunity to field your personal questions. So if you have any, please e-mail them to me at theaterhopper@hotmail.com. They can be about movies, our web comics or what the weather is like in Des Moines versus New York. We don’t care what you ask, we just want to get you involved!
Of course, it would be more of a thrill if you could join us LIVE during the broadcast at 9:00 PM CST over at TalkShoe.com tonight. I mean, how awesome would that be? You could log on to the chat field and leave your question where we can make fun of your spelling or you could call in and talk to us in person where we can make fun of your accent!
That’s not very enticing, is it? Okay, I promise we won’t make fun. But call in all the same! It’ll be a blast!
See you there!

A few quick odds and ends to close out the day:
- There was a little bit of a problem with the blog commenting and THorum registrations, but I think we have that ironed out. So if you want to join the conversation, it should be easier to do.
- I completely forgot to tell you guys about my guest strip at Dueling Analogs. Please go check it out.
I’m doing my good friend Steve a solid because things are a little hectic in his life right now. The holidays were weighing heavily on his mind, he just got a new job and – most importantly – he’ll be having a baby soon!
I was reminded of how kind everyone was to me when Henry was born by chipping in with guest comics and well-wishes, I couldn’t say no when Steve made the call. Congrats, buddy!
- Last, but not least, we’ll be recording our first episode of The Triple Feature of 2009 tonight at 9:00 PM CST at http://www.thetriplefeature.com. Be sure to listen to us live and join in the fun. I think we’re going to take the evening to reconnect with each other after the holidays and share with everyone the movies we’ve been watching. It should be a casual evening before our big Best of 2008 show coming up soon. Be sure to tune in!
That’s pretty much all for now, but I have much more to talk about. Be sure to visit the site tomorrow for more news and updates. You won’t want to miss it!

I completely forgot to mention it in my blog from this morning, but be sure to tune in to The Triple Feature podcast this evening at 9:00 PM CST. We record it live and you can participate in the program through TalkShoe.com! Join the chat room or talk to us over the phone in real-time!
And by “us,” of course I mean Gordon McAlpin from Multiplex and Joe Dunn from Joe Loves Crappy Movies.
I don’t know what we’re talking about, but I’m kind of itching to talk about Last Chance Harvey since I had the opportunity to see it this afternoon. Even though the romance is boilerplate, I found the performances endearing. I haven’t seen Hoffman this affecting since I can’t remember when. If you don’t choke up during the toast he delivers to his daughter during the wedding reception, you might be soul-dead.
I have more to say about the movie, but it looks like Thunderbolts are GO! in relation to Cami blogging for the site. So once I do a quick WordPress walk through for her, she’ll be adding her thoughts shortly. Be sure to check the site Tuesday for her correspondence. I don’t want to talk her up too much, but Cami has always been able to write circles around me, so I think you guys are going to get a kick out of what she has to contribute to the site.
If you aren’t able to catch our recording of The Triple Feature live tonight, be sure to download the show tomorrow. Did you know you can find us on iTunes? It’s true – and so handy! Subscribe to the feed and have shows waiting for you the next day! Awesome!

If you listened to The Triple Feature last night (and if you missed it, don’t worry – just subscribe to our feed on iTunes!) you’ll know that Gordon, Joe and I made our official Oscar picks in advance of the televised broadcast this Sunday. We decided to make it interesting by making a tiny wager. The two people with the least amount of correct predictions has to draw a guest strip for a winning artist. So if Gordon gets the most correct, Joe and I have to draw him a guest strip. Kind of fun, right?
Part of that agreement was that the three of us would post our marked Oscar ballots and submit them to public record. That way, it keeps everyone honest. No last minute changes before or during the broadcast.
My ballot is kind of large, so you’ll have to click here to view it. But it’s there for anyone who is interested.
I think most of the major categories are already sewn up. But I voted for a few dark horse contenders after looking at a few statistical averages and trends among Academy votes in the past. As far as the technical categories go, I have a theory that I’m hoping pays off. Where I get really lost is in the documentary and short film categories.
You’ll have to take a look at my ballot and tell me what you think. Do you think I have a shot at winning our little competition?

Two things that I couldn’t fit contextually with the giant blog post that preceded it, but I have more I need to talk about.
First, don’t forget to check out the podcast I host with Gordon McAlpin from Multiplex and Joe Dunn from Joe Loves Crappy Movies called The Triple Feature tonight at 9:00 PM over at TalkShoe.com.
For SURE we will be talking about Monsters vs. Aliens because I know this is one of the rare movies that all three of us have seen before recording the show. So you know we’re going to firing on all cylinders tonight!
We also gotten in the habit of reading listener questions on-air. We have a bunch of good questions for this week show and I’m really looking forward to answering them. If you’d like to have your question answered (it can be about movies, comics, whatever!) sent it to group@thetriplefeature.com. We WILL answer it!
The next thing I need to do is point your attention to another movie-themed web comic, Brian Carroll’s Instant Classic. Specifically, his latest strip, titled “The Last Seven Hours.” This comic is nothing short of brilliant. It’s basically a musical number in web comic form.
44 panels in length, plotted and written within an inch of it’s life, the comic is accompanied by a piano number written by Carroll and performed by three of his friends and the song is excellent.
I’ve known Brian for a few years. Our comics kind of came up around the same time. Stuff like this is where he really shines. It is unique, endearing and puts me to shame as a fellow artist.
I’ve always felt Brian’s efforts were the classier affair between our two comics. If Theater Hopper were Milk Duds, Instant Classic would be a chocolate covered truffle.
You owe it to yourself to check it out. Tell ‘im Milk Dud sentcha!
