POINTING OUT STUPIDITY SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO

I think the more savvy among us are aware that the DVD market is often ledden with scams designed to extract your last home-entertainment dollar. Movies are released then re-released with “extra bonus footage!” and “double secret extra hidden footage!” that keeps you coming back for more. By now, I think there are at least 94 different editions of the American Pie movies.
That said, you have no one to blame but yourself if you wind up purchasing The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers when it comes out on DVD this coming Tuesday. They might as well call that the “Sucker Edition” when you consider all the cool extra stuff they’ll insert with the Platinum Series Extended Edition in November.
Honestly, I’ll probably stay away from even that and wait until after Return of the King since they’ll probably bundle all of the Platinum Series together with a special collectors edition hollow bust of Sean Astin’s head that you’ll be able to carry around like a thermos.
I’m looking forward to that…
You know you’ve really “made it” in web comics when your merchandise starts showing up on fictional characters like in today’s Aikida. You’ll notice that the lead character is wearing the ever-classy “Pimp Tom” t-shirt. And believe me, there isn’t any more valuable real estate in web comics.
If “Pimp Tom” is good enough for Aikida, isn’t it good enough for you?

By the way, I wanted to let everyone know about a guest strip I did over at Filibuster. J.J. was going to be out of town for a few weeks and asked if I could whip something up for him. I don’t mind being a little political from time to time, so I decided to take him up on the opportunity. It has fun with both the Democrats and Republicans, so check it out!
I also wanted to clue everyone in on a t-shirt design I submitted to Threadless. If possible, please vote for my entry. If you could mark the box that says “I’d Buy This” along with a rating of 5, it would really help me out. You can leave comments at the bottom, if you like.
All you have to do is create an account there to vote. It doesn’t cost you anything and it doesn’t commit you to buying the shirt. Threadless just uses the votes to calculate which shirts will be considered for production. If they choose mine, then I get a percentage of every shirt sold. Plus, it would just be really cool!
Thanks to everyone for their support!

Like many of you, I waited until the last day possible to order my “Professional Movie Goer” shirt, but remember: There is a difference between procrastinating and just plain missing the boat.
Order one (or more) today and be one of the cool people! Everybody’s doing it. [Unless you are against that sort of thing. If so: order one (or more) today and be a unique individual!]
Have a great weekend!

Talking with the good people in the THorum inspired me to make a t-shirt based off of Friday’s robot comic. I thought I would share it with everyone here, in a more visible place.
I want to know what you think. Send me a e-mail and tell me if this is something you would buy.
Don’t underestimate the weight your voice carries in this matter. I am so on the fence when it comes to introducing new merchandise that one negative comment could keep me from doing it altogether.
But on the other hand, I feel the itch to start selling shirts again (including the spoiler shirt and professional movie goer shirt) and when they come back, I want to give you guys another option.

Okay, as promised. Here’s the t-shirt design I came up with based off the fake poster in Wednesday’s comic…
I’m looking for some honest feedback, guys. So what’s your opinion? Do you like it? Would you wear it if it were on a t-shirt? What needs to be tweaked?
E-mail me at theaterhopper@hotmail.com with your opinions. If there’s a demand, I’ll hopefully set up a pre-order for them this week!
