Alternatively, if you know of any communities besides Top Web Comics that could help to spread the word about Theater Hopper, I would be interested in learning about them.

I’m becoming concerned that Theater Hopper may be getting a little too big for it’s britches. I checked my server statistics for April, and we’re pressing up against 12GB in bandwith transfer. My account is only alotted 15GB.
A lot of the drain is due to the information that appears on the left and right hand side of the comic. Every time a page is called, it’s reloading that information. And while the images there are less than 1k in size, after 300,000 reloads, it all adds up.
I’m beginning to think the site will need to undergo a redesign soon. I’m reluctant to do it because I’ve yet to re-enter all of the blogs from when we converted to PHP about a month ago.
If anyone out there is proficient in web design or perhaps has some database knowledge, please contact me. If you have any tips or tricks to help me reduce bandwidth consumption. I am eager to hear those as well.

Calling all PHP wizard! Theater Hopper needs your help.
I’m try to implement a script called AdMentor. It’s a handy-dandy administrative panel that will allow me to sell advertisements through the site. The people I sell ads to can then look at their ad statistics – how many impressions the ad has made, click throughs, how long the ad has been running and what not. If you’d like to download the script to view for yourself, it can be found here.
Anyway, I’ve set up a database through my server and I think I have everything hooked up correctly, but I’m still having problems.
View this page and try logging on with Username: administrator, Password: test. I get a funny error message am totally at a stand-still.
If anyone can help me, please contact me directly. If anyone has suggestions for replacement scripts, I’m interested in learning about those, too.
Thanks!

It just dawned on me that when I asked for some help with PHP a few days ago on the site, that I didn’t give credit to those of you who stepped forward to lend a hand.
There were several of you – More than I expected. And as such, I didn’t get an opportunity to respond to everyone who wrote it. If you sent a letter my way, thank you for your time and support.
Many thanks to Comrade F who figured out that the script in question was poorly written and not worth my time. Thanks also Jason Reid who turned me on to an even better script that I already have up and running and plan on implementing with a redesign of the site.
If I could only be as smart as the rest of you…

Today’s incentive sketch doesn’t entirely follow the narrative of the strip, but let’s just say it was inspired by it. Click here to check it out.
So now Jimmy is shacking up with Tom! Will wonders never cease? What will Cami have to say about it? You’re going to have to wait until Monday to see where it all goes next!
We’ve reached a critical turning point in this little adventure. With Monday’s continuation, this will be THE LONGEST STORY ARC THEATER HOPPER HAS EVER TOLD! Ominous, no?
It’s exciting in a respect, but also a little nerve-wracking when you cross a boundary like that. Remember that scene in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings where all the hobbits band together to begin their quest? Early in their journey, they come to the edge of a field. Sam stops and comments, “If I take one more step, it’ll be the farthest away from home I’ve ever been.”
It’s kind of like that.
As such, I’m becoming paranoid that it’s going on to long, and I feel obligated to keep referencing back to the origin of the story so people don’t become lost or bored. I don’t want you guys to think that I’m fishing for compliments with the whole insecurity routine. Just trying to explain where my head is at.
That said, interest has really heated up and people are starting to wonder what will happen to Jimmy next. The people in the THorum have been extremely supportive in this respect. Thanks, guys! Of course, I’m getting some really nice e-mails, too…
…
# The rest of this post was lost, presumably after Theater Hopper moved to WordPress in January 2009 #
How about that Episode III, eh? Okay, enough movie talk for now. You guys are very resourceful, so I am asking you for help.
The Problem: I have a Sony Clie PEG-NX60/U pda. About six months ago, my computer at work was wiped out and I lost my palm desktop and backup information. I tried to find my original installation disk, but despite turning my house inside out and backwards, I have not been successful. Without that installation disk, none of my information is hot-synced and backed up. My job depends upon me using that information and if anything happens to my pda (like this morning’s “Fatal Error” scare, which fortunately didn’t delete anything) I will flip out Jerry Maquire style and lose it.
The Trial: I have attempted to install my employer’s version of Palm Desktop, but it requires the Sony Clie Drivers which are conveniently absent from Sony’s site. I also tried to install the software from other Sony Clie models and from downloaded versions, but that didn’t work either. Sony’s help line costs $15 just to speak to a person, so I’d rather not go that route.
The Mission: The mission will be completed when the palm desktop software on my work computer is able to sync with my pda and backup is accomplished.
The Method: Possible solutions to this dilemma include but are not limited to:
- Mailing me an original Sony Clie PEG-NX60/U CD
- Mailing me a burned but fully functional copy of the aforementioned CD
- E-mailing or otherwise hooking me up electronically with the drivers or CD.
- Showing up in a highly modified DeLorian and taking me back to when I purchased the PDA; making me put the disk in a safe and memorable place.
The Reward: The (first) person who is able to complete this mission and assist me will be handsomely rewarded with a T-shirt from the Theater Hopper store and a star on the TH Walk of Fame. Please email me if you are interested in helping me. I don’t want to receive 10 disks in the mail and be expected to buy you each a shirt. Email me at brinkmeyer@hotmail.com if you think you can help. Please include something about a mission in the message title so I know you are not an evil spammer.
Help me Theater Hoppers, you are my only hope.

Guys, I am passing along a note from my good friend, THorum moderator and hosting provider Brian asking for your help to bring the server that Theater Hopper (and several other well known comics like Nothing Nice To Say, Rob and Elliot, Beaver and Steve, Joe and Monkey and many more) resides on.
Brian has been notified by the company that owns the server that we are FAR beyond the allowed rate of transfer – around 20Mbps at points when we should be around 1Mbit, or so.
Brian needs a monetary influx to upgrade the server to the point that we can avoid the server company imposing a transfer rate cap. A cap would greatly slow down the performance of the server and all the sites on it and we wish to avoid that.
Once we get past this growing pain, Brian is planning to launch his own hosting company, the proceeds from which should hopefully make donation requests like these a thing of the past as his company becomes self-sustaining and wildly successful.
Please donate anything you can spare, even if it’s just a dollar. I’ve already sent money onto Brian to help him pursue his dream of forming his own business and as a “Thank You” for the continued service he provides this site. He more than deserves our support for the time he has invested into the success of Theater Hopper.

I know I was a little late with the blog this morning, so now might be a good opportunity for you to hook up with the Theater Hopper Live Journal Feed. Through the magical powers of RSS, it automatically updates whenever new information is added to the front page. You’ll never be out of the loop again!
Furthermore, I appreciate everyone’s patience right now. Things have been really hectic for me as I’m packing everything up and preparing for our move into a new home on July 12.
Remember that I still need guest strips for that week, so if you have a comic and would like a little extra exposure, I’m accepting all submission! E-mail me with your creations. JPG format (if possible) and no wider than 525 pixels or else it will break the layout of the site.
Many thanks for your support!

I’m just putting this out there to see how many fish bite, but I think I need to hire a programmer to help me do some behind-the-scenes stuff with the site. I have friends who are resources who do great work, but there’s been some stuff I’ve wanted to do with the store and the archive that have been collecting dust for the last few years that I really want to get a move on.
If this has piqued your interest, e-mail me and we can discuss it. I don’t have a lot of money to spend, but money could be involved. Maybe a little free merchandise or a custom sketch. Whatever it takes. I’d like to throw in a couple of barter items if possible.
Basically, I need something to help me track inventory in the store as well as something that will display that same information on the front end.
In regards to the archive, I need a search engine that can help people find the comics that they’re looking for. People have asked me for this feature for a while. I kind of brushed it off because I was still able to find comics I was looking for when I would troll through there. Now, 450+ comics later, it’s not so easy.
I have a few ideas. Let’s talk it out.

Does anyone know how to reduce the height of a form input field? Maybe through cascading style sheets or other means? The default is too high and I need to squeeze everything down in the little mailing list section to a height of 75 pixels.
E-mail me if you have the answer.
