Well, if you voted for Theater Hopper at the Web Comics List, you kind of already know the big news. The incentive sketch I put up is now available to own courtesy of the fine people at eBay!
I created this piece in ink on an 11 x 14" of Bristol board. So it’s big and suitable for framing! I guess since I was so excited about reaching the big 500, I just wanted a way to extend that excitement to you guys and give you the option of being a part of it.
I set the auction up yesterday but didn’t get a chance to post about it until today. At any rate, the auction ends 5 days from now, so be sure to get your bids in! This is a great holiday gift for yourself or maybe the big Theater Hopper fan on your list! It’s totally one of a kind and can be yours… IF the price is right!
One other note today, congradulations to Sam Logan whose comic Sam & Fuzzy also crossed the 500 strip threshold this week. Sam’s being more low key about it than I am. I thought he gave a good reason, too:
"I don’t really have anything profound to say about my 500th consecutive Sam and Fuzzy strip," said Sam. "Perhaps if I was growing sick of it, or getting ready to pack it in altogether, it would feel more monumental — like I had completed some great challenge or overcome some tremendous obstacle. But I don’t feel that way at all. No, today is just another day, and today’s strip is just one more comic that I loved creating and am thrilled to be able to share with so many people."
Very well put. Incidentally, I feel the same way. I mean, 500 comics isn’t a challenge or an obstacle. It’s a lot of fun! I plan to keep doing Theater Hopper so long as you keep reading it. But where Sam and I differ is that when I stop to smell the roses, I also grab people by the sleeve, shove their face into the thorny bush and say "SMELL THESE ROSES! AREN’T THEY GREAT?!"
Man, who would have thought that Theater Hopper, Sam & Fuzzy and Questionable Content would all hit 500 comics in the same week. Hear that? That’s the sound of the planets aligning.

Hey, guys. I have another quick favor to ask. I know I ask for a lot of stuff from you guys, but this one is more personal.
Cami has been at home with Henry for the last 8 weeks and she’s having a really hard time imagining going back to work. I mean, she *has* to go back to work. There’s no getting around it. But she’s dreaming of a day where she can work from home and take care of Henry full time.
She’s taking a run at starting her own eBay business. We’ve been reading up on it and we’re taking the initial steps into making this work. Right now, she has a handful of items up for auction. Nothing fancy. Just stuff we’re getting rid of. But if you could take the time to look over her auctions and maybe considering bidding on something, it would go a long way to boosting her confidence. Cami’s never done the eBay thing before. If nothing else, I want to do what I can to ensure she has a nice experience.
A list of her auctions can be found here.
Even if there’s nothing listed you want, please consider forwarding the link on to others who might find something they like. Cami will be posting new auctions throughout the week, so keep an eye on things.
Thanks again for your help! We appreciate it!

There’s a lot of talk about the new Apple iPhone being released today.
Guess what? I GOT ONE!
It was totally by accident. Cami, Henry and I were wandering through the mall today and our AT&T store had a sign out front that said “Only 14 iPhones left!” I didn’t think much of it because I knew it was too expensive for me to purchase, so we kept walking.
Later, we came home and I got online. I was reading articles about iPhones for sale on eBay with price tags over $1,000!
So I sat at home wringing my hands and debating about whether or not to go back to the store and grab one. I even consulted my LiveJournal friends. With their encouragement, I raced back to the store and bought one. I’m glad I did. I spoke to the manager and he said their location was the only one in Iowa, Minnesota or Nebraska to have any iPhones left in stock.
So, of course, our new iPhone is now on eBay. It’s a three day auction that I started for $650. We’ll ship overnight anywhere in the world, so if you’re interested, bid away! If you have friends who might be interested, let them know, too!
Cami and I are planning to take any profits from the sale and put them toward Henry’s college savings fund. It might not sound very exciting, but we’re trying to be creative. So it’s all going toward a good cause. Good for Henry, anyway. 18 years from now.
THANKS!

A few things I forgot to mention in the first post:
- A few people were congratulating me last Friday for reaching my 700th comic. Actually, that was a typo because I accidentally counted Wendesday’s “Boo hoo! My computer is FUBAR!” messages as an comic. I’ve made the correct and TODAY’S comic is my 700th – which is mind-numbing to think about.
I think the last time I celebrated the number of comics I posted was 400 or probably 500. But anymore, I think I’m just into celebrating anniversaries. You’ll hear from me again about it on August 5.
- Don’t forget to call in and listen to The Triple Feature talkcast tonight at 9:00 PM CST over at Talkshoe. I pretty much plan on giving the floor to Joe to talk about Live Free or Die Hard because it sounds like he had a blast at that movie and I want him to tell us all about it.
We’ll probably be talking about Transformers, too – if you’re interested. Join in and talk to us live!
- It’s kind of a long story about how it came into my possession, but I’m auctioning off an 8GB iPhone on eBay and the auction ends around 10:00 PM tonight. So if you’re interested or know someone that might be interested, bid away!
For the love of God, PLEASE bid. The longer this thing stays in my house, the more I want to love it in unnatural ways.

In all truth, Cami would probably be the LAST person to become irate at the news that the re-release of The Lion King topped the box office after 17 years. But it was funnier to suggest that Tom had a gigantic Jonathan Taylor Thomas collection.
I guess I’m not totally surprised that a re-release of The Lion King would perform as well as it did. This is September, after all. We’re all coming down from the post-summer blockbuster season. Although, I would have thought that if any movie had a chance this weekend, it would have been Drive. Maybe it’s my Ryan Gosling man-crush talking, but that movie looks cooler than cool. I would have loved to seen it this weekend if I weren’t completely wiped out from some kind of late-summer cold/flu thing that left me incapacitated. It’s a good thing I didn’t see Contagion last week or I would have felt a little paranoid!
Not much else for me to talk about this week. But, hey, since I haven’t pimped the Theater Hopper store in a while, how about this: take a look at this shirt I designed a while back called “The Movie Was Better.” I found out last week that the nerd-mavins over at ThinkGeek have a shirt of their own called “The Book Was Better.”
Now, maybe I’m biased, but I think my shirt is better. If you’re reading this, I’m willing to bet you feel the same way. So let’s make a pact. Buy my shirt and prove ’em wrong. Let’s face it: the design is better and it costs less money. It’s a win-win!
Plus, c’mon… ThinkGeek is producing light-up Iron Man shirts. They’re not hurting for money. Help the little guy for once, won’t you?
That’s all I got, folks. Have a great week!
