I saw the title on this trailer and I immediately thought it was a goof. I had a good zinger in mind, too.
“So, apparently the producers of Machine Gun Preacher saw Hobo With A Shotgun and thought they could do one better.”
Y’see. Kinda snazzy.
Then I watched the trailer. Pure pulp shlock like Hobo With A Shotgun this is not…
I have no doubt that this movie will make people who do mission work feel good about themselves. But I am decidedly not the audience for this picture.
I’m also skeptical how much of this “true story” holds water. What are your thoughts? Leave your comments below!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all know that the original Ghost Rider was clown shoes. And, yes, we all know that Nicholas Cage is probably the LAST guy to deservedly play Johnny Blaze. That said… I’m kind of digging the first trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence.
I like the way they’ve tweaked Ghost Rider’s look. He kind of looks like a charcoal briquette. Plus, keep in mind that this outing is being lensed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor – the same guys who directed Crank and Crank: High Voltage.
I know that those films have their critics – and rightfully so. But at least we know Ghost Rider won’t be boring this time.
…
Coulda used with out the pee-napalm, though.
Recently I was informed that the producers of the “Not Another…” parody movie franchise (Not Another Teen Movie, Date Movie, Superhero Movie, Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans) are coming out with a new movie later this year…
Yes, that’s right. Coming soon to a theater near you, Not Another Not Another Movie.
What could it possibly be about? “A struggling movie studio that’s willing to do anything to make a mint – even if it means ruining their reputation, and running the movie industry into the ground.” So says the plot synopsis.
At this point they’re practically DARING you to let them spit on your brains.
What’s amazing to me is that they were even able to round up any “name” performers for this one. I mean, Burt Reynolds, Chevy Chase and Vinnie Jones are exactly discerning actors. But they have a little bit of credibility. Why troll for laughs with this dead-end premise?
Incidentally, I will have it noted that I predicted EXACTLY this over three years ago with the following comic. I think I should be awarded some Internet Pointz for that…

Remember the Summer of 2011? The sequels, the superhero movies and the throngs of “adult” movie goers who complained that there wasn’t anything that met the needs of their discerning taste?
Somehow, Crazy, Stupid Love filled that void and became the antidote for kiddie movies and blockbusters. I’m not sure how. The movie was very much about surface impressions and, in the end, very much a farce. But the whiners were appeased and went back to their domiciles to eat cheese and drink a nice merlot.
Meanwhile, here comes The Debt – a taut, emotional espionage thriller about former Massad agents who worked together in 1960’s East Berlin to track down a Nazi war criminal. Things go wrong and they’re still dealing with the fallout several decades later.
Meanwhile, no one is talking about it.
I don’t know if the pedigree of the film is turning people off or if it just looks too complex since it’s about espionage and takes place in two different time periods. But it’s been getting great reviews and is probably worth checking out. Frankly, you had me at “Helen Mirren.”
Is anyone else planning on checking out The Debt this weekend?
As someone who fell madly, deeply in love with movie Once and it’s Oscar-winning soundtrack, I was enthralled to learn that the follow-up documentary The Swell Season would be hitting theaters soon.
If you’re a fan of the movie Once and the music of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, you owe it to yourself to watch this now.
As most people know, Hansard and Irglova carried over the fictional romance captured in Once into the real world. This new documentary captures the two year period after the release of the film and the success and strain it brought upon the couple – a very interesting coda to a unique love story.
For a romantic like myself, the promise of this movie hits me squarely between the eyes. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to see it soon.

I remember when they announced that all 6 Star Wars movies were going to be available on Blu-ray at the same time and I had a little bit of an internal conflict about whether or not I would introduce the franchise to my son starting with A New Hope or with The Phantom Menace.
It didn’t take me long to decide that the Original Trilogy should come first. Chronology is nice, and everything. But my love of Star Wars is based around a certain experience or feeling I can’t quite articulate.
This video helped give that feeling meaning…
The prequels are fine, but the Original Trilogy always comes first.
This video was shared with me on the Theater Hopper Facebook page and it’s too perfect for words. It goes along with what I was saying on Monday about introducing my son to Star Wars.
Watch this PSA and it will set you straight.
I don’t know if you heard the good word or not, but both Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown were released on Blu-ray this Tuesday.
Considering how long I’ve waited for both of these films to be released on Blu-ray and considering how integral both films were to the development of my taste in film during my formative high school and college years, I thought it was worth sharing the trailers for the Blu-ray editions here.
Incidentally, if you wanted to pick up either Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown on Blu-ray for your collection, I’ve provided handy links right there so you can do that…
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Jackie Brown, so I’m eager to revisit it. Pulp Fiction, of course, I can quote backwards and forwards.

Okay, if you’ve been on the internet at all today, you know that the first trailer for The Avengers is tearing thing up.
(Although, oddly, when I tweeted about it without linking to it, several people wrote back “Uh, link?”)
So that’s what this blog post is for. If you haven’t seen the trailer for The Avengers yet, here it is:
INITIAL REACTIONS
Immediately I was impressed that there was an adversarial tone between the individual members of the team. “I don’t play well with others,” Tony Stark quips. “Big man in a suit of armor – take that away and what are you?” Captain America sneers. Oh, and is that Thor taking a flying leap, about to smash Captain America’s shield?
This is all very much in keeping with the comics. The “friendly misunderstandings” that lead to heroes battling each other before banding together to fight the common enemy. Total “Who Would Win in a Fight” geek bad-assery on display here.
Clearly Joss Wheadon is giving Tony Stark all the best lines – at least in the trailer. I hope this is the case throughout the movie. One of the biggest advantages to the Iron Man films was Robert Downey Jr’s motormouth style. With a script by Wheadon, you’ve got the best of both worlds when it comes to words and delivery.
What I really like is how close to the vest they’re keeping Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. Barely any screen time or dialogue for either of them in this trailer. Everyone else we’ve seen in action in other movies. But these two are the last unknown variables. Expect Marvel to continue to keep fans on a string regarding those two.
What’s you reaction to the trailer? Personally, I think it was perfectly executed and it gives me high hopes for May 2012. Why don’t you leave your comments below. C’mon. You know you wanna…
