Mechanical web-shooters.
BOOYAH.
I think I remember some mechanism on his back in the trailer, so it still might be organic webbing, but I’m happy they have some sort of web shooter.
Wait – you prefer the homemade devices? Someone involved with the Spider-man universe said something to the effect of “he built an adhesive in his bedroom more powerful than what 3M can come up with?”
So, you’re saying you don’t have a problem with the idea of a man people able to stick to walls, lift a semi over his head or have a precognitive 6th sense warning him of danger…
…but you can’t suspend your disbelief far enough to accept that Peter Parker has genius-level intellect that could engineer web shooters?
I just prefer the all-out genetic mutation that also gives him strength, reflexes, etc. Granted, for the bio-web shooters to be placed perfectly on his wrists was an alignment of all the stars. Those coulda gone anywhere. And yeah, I realize arguing the logistics of a superhero movie is touchy. 😉 I’m by no means close enough to the franchise to argue with any real authority. Logistically, anything mechanical can break and fail. Worse, can be taken away.
It’s an argument between what’s “logical” (in this context) and what’s a more effective storytelling device.
Yeah, if Spider-Man get’s his powers from an all-over mutation, it makes sense that the web shooters should be organic.
But in the comics, Peter runs out of web fluid all the time. Or the shooters break or are confiscated. Humorously, he always forgets. For storytelling purposes, it’s very useful because now Peter doesn’t have a power that he can otherwise rely on. Overcoming that adversity makes for more dramatic tension.
They actually took away Peter’s Spider Sense for a while and he learned that he really didn’t know how to fight very well – he had been operating on instinct for years. Taking it away forced him to be a more competent fighter.
Alright, I just showcased my ignorance. AND I’m now upset that I wanted our hero to have it “easy.” As a film professor once said “We should witness our hero having the worst day of his life.” The problems that come with mechanical shooters give me mild anxiety, so that’s actually good.
