The full theatrical trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon is almost good enough to make me forget that ridiculous title.
Almost.
I gotta give credit to whoever cut this trailer. It actually makes me excited to see the movie. It hits all the right beats and does a good job of making me feel like something is actually at stake. They certainly aren’t trying to play the cutesy-clever card like they did with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Watch the full trailer for that one, if you don’t believe me.
Boy, Shia LaBeouf sure likes to shout “OPTIMUS!” a lot, doesn’t he?
What’s your reaction to these two trailers?
I hate Michael Bay.
The new one seems slightly more “adult” in that it has its eye more on the focus of what the Transformers will do and how they’ll be stopped rather than Shia LaBeouf and his stupid face and weirdness.
If it’s above a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, I’ll see it. Otherwise, I’m done.
I would rather have dental work done than watch anything michael bay has spawned, and i actually have done that in the case of transformers 2
I gotta say, the trailer for the third film looked pretty good, despite the prevalent generic pep talks of “Optimistic Prime”. I skipped over the second one entirely after seeing the first in theaters and feeling so disgusted by the campiness of it. I might actually watch this one though.
Never thought I’d say this after watch the 2nd movie, but I can’t wait to see the new Transformers movie!! WOW!
Then again, almost anything would be better than that giant pile of doggy doodoo that was RotF. I just wish that Bay would revert to the style that he used in The Rock for this series. More still camera, let the action evolve without the camera’s input, let the characters speak for themselves, etc. BTW, I’m hoping that this is at least as good as the first movie, but it probably won’t be…
Regarding camera work, maybe it’s just how the trailer was cut, but it seemed easier to follow the action in it. I definitely agree with you, what I hated most of RotF was the jittery camera work that gave headaches just trying to follow the action. If they fix that in the new movie, it’s a good step. Plus, the story itself looks pretty interesting in the new movie, so let’s hope that they fired the monkeys who came up with RotF and got a decent script together this time.
Both the first and the second Transformers movies had shaky camera work that made them impossible to follow on the big screen. I saw Revenge of The Fallen in IMAX and it was a disaster.
That said, I’ve always found the movies much easier to follow on DVD. Something about the small screen compartmentalizes the action into something comprehensible.
Yep – current trailer says this could be cool, RotF trailer says “confused mess”, and doesn’t lie.
I never saw all of RotF but what I did see was “meh” and I got the jist of what happened ie things went boom and good guys won again. But I knew that going in.
I loved the first one for what it was, and the new one MIGHT get me to buy a ticket. Or I could spend less to see an old classic at Film Forum. Yeah…
First off I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the second movie. I took my kids to see it and came close to walking out. When your 8 year old is sitting there going “Those robots were saying not nice words, Mom!” you know there is an issue. You can actually see the effect the writers strike had on the movie and were Bay took over the script. I refused to buy it when it went to dvd and even wrote an e-mail of complaint.
I saw the teasers and these first trailers for the new movie. I told my kids, “You know what they found on the moon? A plot.” Its nice to see the studio put Bay back on his leash and let the writers actually do their work.
Well, RotF was rated as PG-13… if your 8 year old heard big words he didn’t like, how is it the movie’s fault when you took him/her there despite the rating?
Oh, and it’s well-known that the writing for RotF was incredibly rushed so they start production before the writers’ strike was in full effect… So yeah, the writing/story was crap in that movie, but there was a good reason. Even Bay came out and admitted the writing sucked for it.
LOL @Cara, first of all! I like the fact that the new girl seems MUCH less slutty than his old girlfriend….call me a prude if you want but I get annoyed when they’re that much blatant sexuality in a movie for absolutely no purpose.
