Warner Bros. released three new stills of Ryan Reynolds dressed up in costume for the forthcoming Green Lantern movie. As I’m sure you’re all aware, he’s not wearing an actual costume, but a CGI suit that is being painted over his body by very lonely computer nerds in post.
Here’s my take… I’ve always felt that this movie version of the Green Lantern costume was needlessly ornamental and vaguely Tron-like. But I’ve gotten used to it. Now that I’m looking at this complete head to toe shot, I’m really creeped out by what looks like shrink-wrapped socks on Reynolds’ feet. Seriously, animators. I don’t need to know what the indentation of Reynolds’ toenail bed looks like. But, my! Those foot tendons are FABULOUS!
I swear, with this movie, it’s one step forward and two steps back.
Do you have an opinion about Green Lantern? I bet you do! You should leave your comments below!
I may be just a Ryan Reynolds fanboy but I kinda like the suit.
I like that they are at least trying something different.
I’m okay with different. I just hope the film takes the time to explain what the suit actually is.
I look at this picture and all I think of is “Hulk Feet.”
I love Ryan Reynolds, I can take or leave Green Lantern (All the good comic franchises started ten plus years ago, now we’re doing the rest). The suit.. just looks weird. That is all.
Martin Campbell DOES make watchable films though. SO WHAT NOW?
I think Green Lantern has a smart director who is potentially dumb about the source material. He seems divorced from it somewhat. You’ll notice that his other action movies like Goldeneye, The Mask of Zorro and Casino Royale has a more terrestrial bend to them. I’m not exactly confident he can effectively helm a big-budget sci-fi effects extravaganza.
That can be good or bad. Bryan Singer was famously ignorant about his source material, and X2 is one of the top five comicbook movies.
Yes, but Singer also made Superman Returns.
So… there’s that.
I still just think the mask looks odd. I get that the suit is skin tight and all but it at least has layers and textures. The mask kind of looks like he’s getting a facial. I do find the toes amusing though, now I’m going to laugh every time I see them in the movie.
Yeah… those toes are kind of weird. Maybe they’ll Rob Liefeld them?
It’s almost as if Warner Brothers hates DC (which it owns)
If it’s really meant to be some kind of shrink wrap, protective body covering then Mr Reynolds must be hung like a shrew!
All joking aside, I do like the suit, but still think boots of some form would’ve been a much better look.
Smooth…
…like a Ken doll…
