By the way, I don’t know if you noticed, but since the site relaunch in January I’ve dusted off three obscure characters in a little more than a week’s time.
How do you guys feel about seeing Victor, Charlie and Goth Jared again?
If you’re a new reader and not familiar with these guys, I encourage you to check out the cast page for a little background information as well as links to some of the story lines they were featured in!
If you’re a veteran reader and if you think there are any important characters or story lines I overlooked, use our handy new contact form and let me know!
It’s nice to see some of the offbeat characters. I like Charlie and Goth Jared. Not so much Victor as he feels like a long running gay joke. I know lots of folks dig him but he just doesn’t do it for me. If you’re going to focus on theter employees then Jimmy is where it’s at!
Thanks for your feedback. That’s very helpful, actually.
I tried to add shading to Victor by interjecting that bit about him worshiping Balki Bartokomous from Perfect Strangers a few years back, but it didn’t stick. I see what you’re saying about it being a long-running gay joke, but Victor doesn’t say much and his only other character trait seems to be smoldering rage.
Maybe I need to mix it up a bit. Take Victor’s fixation off of Tom and have him pursue a real relationship. That’s dangerous waters, though. I not sure how I would write a courtship for his character. Needs more thought.
I’d really like to do another story line about Jimmy. I’ve been threatening to do one that ties his history to Charlie since 2005. There was a line from Jimmy in Charlie’s introduction arc about how Jimmy doesn’t like to check the women’s restroom because he once accidentally walked in on a girl he liked. I thought that girl could be Charlie, but I haven’t figured it out beyond that.
There seems to be a lot of good will toward Jimmy. A longer storyline is something I need to do.
It’s been great to see the old fellows get some more time in the sun, personally Goth Jared tends to represent some of my favorite Theater Hopper Content.
Unless Tom’s sentient DVD player some how scrapes it self of the road…
David? I totally forgot about him!
I originally created David to kind of take a jab at comics like Penny Arcade, Ctrl+Alt+Del and Questionable Content for introducing sentient electronic sidekicks. I think the concept is kind of overdone. But it might be interesting to bring him back as a Blu-ray player, or something!
Victor cracks me up. I loved the recent one with him in it. I don’t think we’ve seen Truman in a long time…
Truman is another one of my characters that doesn’t speak. So, again… hard to write for.
I did have an idea for a mini-book where Truman tells the “origin” of Theater Hopper by explaining how Tom and Cami met in flashback.
And, Trevor… I’m looking into that dieting ad. From my other post, I think you can see I’m trying to juggle pieces around in the ad game.
We need more charlie. I feel like you made a great back story for her, then didn’t use her as much as you could. I mean I though the charile story line was very sucessful and I really enjoy the added female perspective she provides.
I love Goth Jared, he’s super pathetic and adorable. I understand that he must be hard to work into ordinary strips, and that makes me appreciate the times he is present all the more.
I’ve always loved Jimmy, and I would like it if you would feature him a little more, but again only when he is appropriate. Victor creeps me out, so the less I see of him the better I feel. But in all honesty, he really does work as a character, if that’s what he’s meant to do. I preferred when he was gone, but the last strip you featured him in was very funny.
I ran out of steam a little bit with Charlie. I thought it was good to make her knowledgeable of geek culture just to make her a counterpoint to Cami’s disinterest in the subject, but pretty much stopped there.
Maybe I need to seriously consider exploring the Jimmy/Charlie relationship. I haven’t done a lengthy storyline in years.
Yay Goth Jared!
I like Charlie too.. and Victor amuses me in an odd way. I think exploring the Jimmy/Charlie relationship would be an interesting storyline.
